( kath )

I've had the pleasure of knowing Katherine Horsman for many years now. When you first meet Kath, it is blazingly obvious that she is an absolutely stunning woman with insane style. But once you spend time with her, you will quickly find she is so much more. Kath is one of the most interesting, funny, and sincere women I know. I was so excited to collaborate on some photoshoots for her blog because I knew it would not only be effortless (as she seems to make everything), but also so much fun! Which it was...

Here are a few of my favorites, but please check out her fabulous blog, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, for more of lil kate's exceptional taste.

Lara ... Part 1

I love photographing Lara. We've been trying to do a shoot together for what seems like forever... and finally the weather turned and everything else fell into place. We based this shoot on a Vogue Italia video... Summer Glam. Photoshoots are all about adapting and working with what you have. There are so many variables to consider, especially when shooting outdoors, so you have to be flexible and spontaneous. To me, this is where the magic happens, when creative minds come together... it could be the location or the lighting or a piece of jewellery that brings it all together. And Voila! Magic.

We may have deviated from our original inspiration, but I am thrilled with the results. Stay tuned for Part 2!

Michelle...

Looking through some photos from the summer, I came across this one of Michelle. Sometimes, a photo that I once overlooked can grab me at another point in time. Perhaps it's my mood, perhaps I just see something different. I love this one, in part because, to me, it really captures Michelle... her lightness and softness that permeates into her soul.

I remember this shoot well. At this point we were walking through a field on Bowen Island, the long grass just starting to glow in the summer evening light. These are the moments when my heart skips a beat, because so many things have come together to make the moment so very special. This is also why I love working with natural light... when you are surrounded by such beauty in nature, it slows you down and puts you be in a better place to really see the shot... to feel the shot. That is when magic happens... although I know the studio has its place, to me, natural light is always king.

Grace Ormonde Tabletop Shoot | Bella Signature Design

I remember Daniela, of Bella Signature Design, telling us of the difficulties that came up for them in driving from Seattle to create a table for this event. They couldn't bring their flowers up across the border and had to source them out here, being very short on time, it was quite stressful. But they pulled it off. Their table was bright and beautiful with unique details and stunning linens. Her inspiration given by the Grace Ormonde team was a 'cultural wedding', which was made even more perfect with Daniela's ‘modern lush’ design aesthetic.

Big thanks again to Reine for inviting us to shoot alongside her, which is always a fabulous day of learning and laughing.
