Letting Go and Holding On...

Knowing when to hold on and when to let go is a fine art... in love, in work, in life. Neither is easy. This has been a huge transition time for me, a year of growing. But it has also been a time of contemplation... of quiet... as if I am choosing to hang out on the sidelines until I am ready. For what... I'm still not sure. For me, life is truly fulfilling when it is packed with adventure and travel, laughter and friends and family, challenges that push me out of my comfort zone. In other words, I am not okay with sitting on the sidelines for long. But I have felt "in-between" for quite some time, and I've tried not to be too hard on myself, instead attempting to be patient and giving myself time to figure out whatever it is I need to figure out. I've had to let go of friendships, of love, and ultimately, what I am. But through this process, I am surfacing. Holding on to my truth and letting go of fear will allow me to become what I might be. And this is incredibly exciting... the calm before the storm.

Tyson & Lena Engagement Shoot Video

During the summer I had the honor of shooting Tyson and Lena's engagement session (here and here). This shoot was all about their passions... namely each other... and cuisine and cocktails. We started at Brix Restaurant, went downstairs to George, hopped over to Salt Tasting Room, and ended up at Ginger 62.

Colin Bazant of Blue Pencil Productions put together this beautiful video of the shoot. Thanks Colin!

The best part is that the engagement shoot is only a warm-up to their incredible wedding day. Everything about their day is a reflection of Tyson and Lena... from the swarovski-studded wedding invitations to the stunning venues to the custom cocktails... not a detail is forgotten. This will be the wedding of the year!

Michelle...

Looking through some photos from the summer, I came across this one of Michelle. Sometimes, a photo that I once overlooked can grab me at another point in time. Perhaps it's my mood, perhaps I just see something different. I love this one, in part because, to me, it really captures Michelle... her lightness and softness that permeates into her soul.

I remember this shoot well. At this point we were walking through a field on Bowen Island, the long grass just starting to glow in the summer evening light. These are the moments when my heart skips a beat, because so many things have come together to make the moment so very special. This is also why I love working with natural light... when you are surrounded by such beauty in nature, it slows you down and puts you be in a better place to really see the shot... to feel the shot. That is when magic happens... although I know the studio has its place, to me, natural light is always king.

Fall is...

Fall is short days, cooler and crisper. Fall is crunchy leaves. Fall is warm sweaters and layering clothes. Fall is hot soups. Fall is heavy dew that sparkles in the morning light. Fall is back to school, new clothes and school supplies. Fall is crisp apples and squash. Fall is brown grasses and plants falling back into the ground. Fall is a melody of reds and oranges, yellows and purples. Fall is chimney smoke. Fall is many things to me... but mostly, Fall is change. It is my time of introspection. My mind and body craves it. I need to reflect on where I've been and where I am going, what I have learned and how to use that to be better. This is my time for recognizing the path I will create for myself. I'm not exactly sure yet where my path will lead, but I'm pretty confident that the journey will be filled with adventure, challenges, inspiration, love, and amazing friends and family.

These are some of my favorite photos from past Falls...

What Is Your Love Story?

I love love. One of the best things about photographing people is that I get to be around so much of it... especially on a wedding day. Capturing this is such an honor, and one of my favorite things. I always ask my clients about their story... their love story... because that is the key to really capturing them. It helps me see and understand the connection, and then what is black and white... becomes color.

I have been blessed with such amazing clients who open their hearts and their lives... thank you so very much... xoxo.
